Aah! The lake

I never get tired of this view of Lake of Bays from our dock. I’ve photographed it dozens of times over the 40 plus years, also painted it and quilted it. The sunsets are spectacular and late in the day too. It stays light until almost 10 pm in July in Muskoka.

Meet Wame

Doug’s family owns a cottage in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. When we moved to the west coast, we wondered if we needed to keep it. We went there one summer shortly after we moved to decide. It didn’t take us long to make the decision, about 5 minutes after we arrived, we knew we couldn’t give it up. It’s a long way, 3200 miles, too far to go for just a week or two, especially since we want to drive, mostly because we take our two cats, Emma and Gucci with us. Over the years we tried a number of different ways to get there.
Part of the plan to move to California involved buying a motor home to travel and live in during the transition. While looking for the perfect vehicle we fell in love with airstreams and ended up buying a 1975 airstream argosy motorhome. We also acquired a vintage 19foot argosy trailer. So over the years since moving we’ve tried several different ways to get to Muskoka. The motorhome was great for traveling but we had to use it as our daily vehicle while we were there. The trailer was just a bit small for us. So we decided to buy a slightly larger airstream trailer.
It took almost 2 years of searching to find Wame our 1971, 21 foot airstream Land Yacht. She needed a complete renovation and during the process, she acquired her name. The nature of airstream, their shape and curves make them very challenging to work on. Wame was stubborn all the way, earning her name and reputation.
